What makes Nicki Velour special
Some fabrics you just have to feel for yourself. Not because they look spectacular, but because they fulfill a promise that words can hardly convey. Nicki Velour is one such fabric. We chose it because the first thing you should notice about a napury is the feeling, not the label.
What Nicki Velour actually is
Nicki Velour is a woven fabric with a short, dense pile. The surface consists of thousands of fine loops that are cut open and brushed in the same direction during the finishing process. This is precisely what gives the fabric its typical soft, slightly matte feel. Unlike classic velour, Nicki is woven shorter and denser, which makes it more dimensionally stable and suitable for travel.
Our napury cover consists of 80 percent cotton and 20 percent polyester. The cotton provides warmth and breathability, while the polyester ensures that the surface retains its pile even after many washes. Both components are certified according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, which means they are demonstrably free of harmful substances that are questionable for the skin.
How it feels
This is the real point. Nicki Velour feels different from typical travel pillow fabrics. No smooth polyester, no technical mesh, no synthetic fleece. Instead: a quiet, dense feel that gently springs back under your fingers. We internally describe it as "matte-soft." It doesn't shine. It doesn't crinkle. It feels like it has always belonged.
When you run your hand over it, the pile changes its tone because the light reflects differently depending on the direction of the fibers. This is not an effect, it's physics. And it's why Nicki Velour is found in boutique hotels, high-quality home accessories, and well-made children's blankets. It looks calm, feels valuable, and ages gracefully.
Why we chose it
During development, we tested various fabrics. Organic cotton in several weaves, Tencel, bamboo viscose, lightweight microfiber. Each had its arguments. But none had the "aha" moment that Nicki Velour had when we first touched it.
It's a fabric that doesn't try to impress. It's not loud. It simply delivers what you need when you hold your pillow, put it in a suitcase, or place it on a hotel bed: warmth, softness, and the silent signal that this is not a run-of-the-mill product.
For a pillow that travels with you and rests in different rooms, this was the right choice. It had to feel at home everywhere, even in a hotel, even on a train, even in a strange bed.
Care and everyday use
A legitimate question: What happens to Nicki Velour when it's used? The short answer: less than you think.
The outer cover is removable and machine washable at 30 degrees. We recommend a mild detergent without fabric softener, because fabric softener dulls the fiber over time. Air drying is best; a dryer is not necessary and unnecessarily strains the pile. After washing, simply shake out the cover briefly, and the pile will realign itself.
In everyday use, it is sufficient to occasionally brush out the cover or stroke it in one direction with a soft clothes brush. Nicki Velour attracts less dust than many synthetic fabrics because the fiber is denser and has no open microfibers.
What remains
We don't believe that a fabric can reveal everything about a product. But it reveals a lot. About care, about decisions, about whether a product was made for people who know what they're looking for — or for people who don't look closely.
We chose Nicki Velour because, for us, a travel pillow is more than just function. It's a small piece of trust that you pick up every evening. And it should feel exactly how napury wants to feel: calm, honest, warm.
